    ****Press Release****
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - The Fifth Annual San Francisco Native Jamboree will be held at The Sir Francis Drake Hotel,  450 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA  94102 on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The day has been proclaimed San Francisco Native Day by the Mayor Gavin Newsom.

The San Francisco Native Jamboree is a fabulous party bringing together native San Franciscans who share the common bond of being born or raised in the most beautiful city in the world! There are many San Francisco celebrations, but no other devoted to those born or raised in the City by the Bay.
There will be dinner, dancing and entertainment.  This year’s “Hall of Fame” award winner has yet to be announced.  Previous years’ recipients are, Hon. Jackie Speier,  Police Chief, Heather Fong, Fire Chief, Joanne Hayes-White and Herb Caen.

The event’s theme is “San Francisco- the movie star” highlighting the many wonderful films that have used San Francisco as their backdrop over the years.  Attendees are expected from nearly all the San Francisco Schools including Abraham Lincoln, Balboa High School, Cathedral School for Boys Alumni Association, Galileo, George Washington, Immaculate Conception, Lick Wilmerding, Lowell, Presentation, Riordan, Saint Ignatius, Saint Rose, The Hamlin School, the Schools of the Sacred Heart, Star of the Sea, and Town School for Boys.

To give back to the community, the San Francisco Native Jamboree supports The San Francisco Conservation Corps. Their mission is to help San Francisco’s young people by providing education, training, and marketable job skills while addressing community needs through service work.  The proceeds of a silent auction and a portion of the net profit will be donated to this deserving organization.
The event is produced by San Francisco Generations, Inc. and sponsored by Monroe Personnel Service LLC and Temptime, Hoogasian Flowers,  Office Depot, Doorstep Photography and Cresalia Jewelers.

Hi Phil,

Yes I'm in charge of the event.  It's called Amici Vecchi – or – “Old Friends“ for those of you not familiar with the Italian language.  I started it with 6 fellas from North Beach 7 years ago.  I now have over a hundred guys and everyone knows each other.  It's held always at Casear’s Restaurant on a Saturday. The last one was held on APR. 26th, 2008.at Noon.  I would appreciate and love for you to put it on your weekly newsletter.
Thanks,

Current News & Ongoing Events
SF Japantown Welcomes the Tanabata Festival
July 1 through August 31, 2008
Japan Center, SF Jtown

The public is cordially invited to join the tenants of the Kinokuniya, Kintetsu and Miyako Malls in the celebration of Tanabata or Star Festival from July 1 through August 31, 2008. The malls are located adjacent to the Japan Center Peace Plaza in San Francisco's Japantown (between Laguna and Fillmore Streets crossing Post Street).

The Tanabata Festival is observed throughout Japan with decorations of bamboo branches and personally handwritten wishes on colorful strips of paper. Legend has it that it is a romantic Chinese tale between two heavenly beings. The Heavenly Weaver or Shokujo (Verda Star) and her lover the Cow Herder or Kengyu (Altair Star) meet on the eve of July 7th upon the winged bridge of magpies along the Milky Way. Wishes are written to the heavens in celebration of their yearly rendezvous.

The tenants of the Kinokuniya, Kintetsu, and Miyako Malls will be observing the Tanabata Festival in unique ways and encouraging individuals to dress in yukata (traditional summer kimono) and personally place messages or wishes on the branches of bamboo trees located in designated areas throughout the malls. In past celebrations these wishes were written in many languages.

It's Gala time! This year Japan Society has something to celebrate . . .

This year, we honor women in US-Japan business--and we're excited about it! We are also pleased to present a Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Richard Heggie, a former Japan Society president with over five decades of leadership experience in Asia and the US.

To read about these honoree's impressive accomplishments, please click here.

So join us in the celebration--in body or in spirit--as we recognize those whose work will certainly have a lasting impact on US-Japan relations, as well as women's roles within it.
